The House voted 415-14 on Wednesday to make Juneteenth, or June 19th, a federal holiday. The bill now goes to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law. The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S.

Republican lawmakers in the House who opposed the bill, including Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Doug Lamalfa of California, argued the holiday would only divide the country based on race.
