A team of engineers in the Gaza strip launched a new robot on Saturday, capable of detecting explosive devices and extinguishing fires.

The robot, which took five months to complete, was assembled from recycled vehicle components and features a water cannon to extinguish fires, an arm to lift objects and shovel to clear debris and other objects.

"The device has a great capacity, thanks to God, as you can see, it lifts objects with heavy weights that may reach 50 kilos (110 lbs). It has a front shovel and it has a hose to deal with the firefighting. It also has an al-Atham battery that lasts about two hours," stated Ahmed Mokbel, an engineer who worked on the robot.

Engineers explained that the aim is to distribute the robots to all governorates in the Gaza Strip and help reduce dangers to Palestinian defence personnel.

"The problem we suffer from in the Gaza Strip is the remnants of the Israeli occupation that remain between the roads and among the children, the remnants of the Israeli occupation that led to the martyrdom of many students, children and the elderly. This is a robot that deals with suspicious objects by being a fire-fighter and a civil defence man, who is safe and does not expose himself to danger," added Mokbel.

SOT, Ahmed Mokbel, Robot Innovation Engineer (Arabic): "The device has a great capacity, thanks to God, as you can see, it lifts objects with heavy weights that may reach 50 kilos (110 lbs). It has a front shovel and it has a hose to deal with the firefighting and firefighting water through the civil defence vehicle. It also has an al-Atham battery that lasts about two hours, which is a good and sufficient period compared to global robots. We searched for it through the Internet and social networking sites."

SOT, Ahmed Mokbel, Robot Innovation Engineer (Arabic): "There are serious fires that contain gas cylinders and burning containers that do not allow the fire-fighter to get close to them to put out these fires. During this, a robot goes to the place and the fire-fighter is safe and saves himself."

SOT, Ashraf Klopp, Electrician (Arabic): "The lack of capabilities in the limited Gaza Strip. This robot was made from vehicle waste and was replaced with vehicle waste. It was also replaced with waste parts used. This robot was collected from more than one piece, so it took no more than five months."

SOT, Ashraf Klopp, Electrician (Arabic): "This is a robot that we use in the fires caused by the Zionist enemy, whether there are explosives or danger in extinguishing the fires. We replace this robot with a fire-fighter. This robot is the victim and not the fireman. Of course, a robot was made of iron that will not be affected by the fire or something else, But if an explosion occurred and affected, this would be a robot, not a human."
