Doctors in Florida, along with Democratic lawmakers, are begging governor Ron DeSantis to do more to try to slow the spread of COVID in the Sunshine State, but those cries have fallen on deaf ears. DeSantis wants to have his cake and eat it, too, by pandering to the low-information Republican base in Florida that doesn't want to protect anyone (including themselves) from the worsening pandemic. DeSantis could be setting himself up for an electoral defeat because of this, which might be the only silver lining. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Doctors and Democratic lawmakers in the state of Florida are begging our Trump loving governor, Ron DeSantis, to do something, to do anything, to help slow the spread of COVID here in the sunshine state. Doctors have been outspoken in the last week, talking to media outlets saying that something has to be done and it has to come from the governor, right? He's the one in charge of the state. He has to do something to help protect the citizens because doctors are warning us hotel, not hotels, excuse me, hospitals are hitting capacity again, in some areas. We're running out of hospital beds once again, folks, we're seeing numbers higher today than we were a year ago. People are dying and they shouldn't be dying. The vaccination rates are too low in Florida and so of course, last week we did have DeSantis come out and say, okay, hey, if you can get vaccinated, get vaccinated. But the experts are telling us this isn't good enough. Democratic lawmakers this past week also signed onto a letter urging, begging DeSantis to do more than what he's doing now, which what he's doing now is absolutely nothing.

In fact, what he's doing now is actually threatening areas across the state that if you do something to try to slow the spread, if you put a mask mandate in place, I'm going to overturn it. He told schools a week ago, if you mandate masks for the children entering your building, I'm going to overturn it. Maybe get you stripped of your funding if you make children wear masks, if you make them wear masks. We have a deadly pandemic, still, more contagious than ever. Literal children, perfectly healthy normal children are dying from it and Ron DeSantis' solution is to say, I swear to God, if you try to stop this thing, I'm going to come and smack you in the face politically. So, yeah, I don't think he's listening to the doctors. I don't think he read the letter from the Democratic lawmakers begging him to do something. He came out and he encouraged people to wear a, get the vaccine, excuse me. He didn't encourage people to wear a mask. He encouraged people to wear, get the vaccine. And, you know, because he wants to look like he's doing something. Tried to make it illegal for cruise ships to require proof of vaccination. The court struck him down on that and then another court struck that down.

Removed our federal, or not federal, our statewide COVID protections, almost before any other governor in the country, that was early last summer, by the way. Put restrictions in place way after everybody else after Spring break 2020. So he could a little more of that money. The man has done absolutely nothing except coddle the virus. I mean, that is the only way to say this. And the reason I am so hellbent on talking about Ron DeSantis all the time is not just because I live in Florida and it's personal to me, It's because this man, if you take Trump out of the 2024 race, this guy is the front runner right now. And he wants to make the rest of the country like Florida, which means you better go get a shovel and start digging your own grave because that's what's going to happen. That's what's happening here in Florida and this man could very easily end up being the next president of the United States. That's a terrifying thought.
