Delegates leave the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Monday, October 18, after the Syrian Constitutional Committee has completed the first meeting of the sixth round of talks.

Prior to the meeting, the UN special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said that the committee has not made major progress during its 2-year mandate but expressed hope the current meeting will result in the launch of the process of drafting a constitutional reform.

The Syrian Constitutional Committee, tasked with producing a new constitution for the war-torn country, met for the first time in Geneva on October 30, 2019. The committee is made up of Syrian delegates representing the government, the opposition, and civil society.
