Boris Johnson pays tribute to Sir David Amess as Queen awards city status to Southend

The Prime Minister has paid tribute to Sir David Amess after he was stabbed to death at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea.

Boris Johnson also announced that the Queen has approved Southend being given city status - something Sir David campaigned for passionately.
