Former President Donald Trump officially sued the January 6th Select Committee and the National Archives on Monday to prevent the release of White House records from the day of the Capitol Riot. This move only makes him look more desperate and gives the impression that he clearly has something to hide from that day. The question now is what is he hiding, and how damning is it? Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins attempts to answer that question based on what is already known.

Yesterday, Donald Trump filed yet another lawsuit, this time against the national archives to prevent them from releasing any of the White House records from the day of January 6th. The select committee investigating the Capitol riots had requested these documents from the Trump White House, which the request was made obviously to the Biden White House and Joe Biden said, sure, have at it, I'm not going to stand in your way. Well, Trump doesn't want that to happen. So yesterday his lawyers go to court, file this lawsuit and the first thing they demand is one, you nullify the request entirely. So, nope, doesn't matter. He can't have it. But the second thing they requested, and this is the part that on their behalf is actually fairly smart, they said before anything could even be released, they want the national archives to go through all of those documents, all the communications and identify which ones would be relevant to the committee's request.

And then turn all of those over to Trump and his legal team in order for them to determine which ones are protected by executive privilege, which the answer to that should be none of them because you're not the executive anymore. Joe Biden is and the executive has said, you can have whatever you want. But the reason that move is smart on behalf of the Trump legal team, I didn't say it's good, I said it's smart, is because that process would likely take years. The national archives is a slow organization and it's a slow organization by design. They have to go through everything from the Trump administration, from every administration, every single document, every single communication, every official email sent from White House computers, everything folks. And it does take years and the Trump legal team knows this. They know that they could likely lose just on the, let's nullify the entire request part.

But asking for the specific documents, making sure that they could claim executive privilege on some of them, that is a case they might actually be able to win, which is why it's so shocking to me that Trump actually hired lawyers smart enough to know how to do that. I have not been impressed with any of the legal representation that Donald Trump has had over the years. This group, however, seems to know what they're doing to best hamstring the January 6th select committee. But the bigger question of course is why in the hell is he trying so desperately to hide this information? What could be in there that is so bad that he doesn't want the public to know about it, right? He didn't order the Capitol riots. Okay. We all know that. He may have supported it, which we also all pretty much know. So, so why hide it? What, what did you say? What orders did you give that would make you look bad? And I think the answer to that could be, and this is, you know, shot in the dark here.

But the only thing I can think that Trump would have done that he would want hidden from the public is delay any kind of military, you know, national guard response to the attackers. That is the only possible thing I can think of that Donald Trump would not want the public to know. That he gave the order for the national guard to not go in yet.
