Former White House communications director David Gergen believes that there is only one thing that can stop Donald Trump from running for president again, and that would be a prison sentence. Several other sources who have recently spoke to the media said that the former president came very close to announcing a presidential run back in August, but has so far remained non-committal about his future plans. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains why a Trump 2.0 presidential run is a very frightening concept.

Donald Trump continues his will he, or won't he run for president in 2024. But according to people who actually worked with him, he's already made up his mind and he is 100% all in on running for president again in 2024. This latest admission comes from David Gergen, a former White House communications director, who said that Donald Trump is actually quote, hungry for a rematch with Joe Biden. And I gotta be honest, I think that's a rematch that Donald Trump stands a very good chance of winning. Let's be honest about something here. The reason Joe Biden is the president of the United States today has less to do with Donald Trump's horrible record as president and more to do with Donald Trump's horrible record on one single issue and that is the pandemic. Had that pandemic not happened I do not think Joe Biden would have won the 2020 presidential election because even as hated as Donald Trump was by the moderates, as hated as he was by the Democrats, he received far more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016. Obviously, Biden received more, but a lot of that had to do with people being terrified about the pandemic and the fact that Donald Trump was doing nothing about it.

So yes, I do think Donald Trump will run again in 2020 and I do think he is a major, major threat if he chooses to run again in 2024, sorry, not 2020, 2024. But here's the thing. It's not just this former communications director saying he's hungry for a rematch. You also have two former advisors who said that Donald Trump was ready to declare he was running again in 2024 back in August, right around the time the United States pulled out of Afghanistan and that became a big debacle. They said Trump wanted to declare then just as a show of strength, as Biden was struggling, his approval of handling the matter was abysmal, Donald Trump wanted to jump in at that point and say that he was running again. But now we also have reports saying Trump doesn't want to announce he's running for president again until after next year's midterms, because you know, he doesn't want to be blamed if Republicans don't take back the House and or the Senate, which not that bad of a strategy, to be honest with you. Donald Trump seems like he's getting better advice this time around than he had in his previous two presidential bids. They're able to restrain him, I guess, a little bit more. They're holding him back. They're saving him from himself to a certain degree.

And if this is what we can expect from a 2024 presidential run, especially if Joe Biden is that Democratic nominee, then I don't have a whole lot of faith that the Democrats can pull off a victory against him yet again. And here's the problem. When we have everything that we know now and of course reports coming out late last night, early this morning, that Republican members of Congress were actively coordinating with the insurrectionists and the White House about the Capitol riot that day. If Trump were to run for president again and win I don't think he ever leaves. Honest to God, don't believe this man ever leaves the White House if he wins again. He will do whatever it takes.
