As rubbish piles up in Rome, refuse collectors are being offered bonuses to stop calling in sick. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri has promised €360 (£302) to each refuse collector who shows up every working day until January 9 so he can keep an election promise to clean the city by Christmas. In August, it was reported Amazon were offering a £50 weekly bonus for permanent staff at some UK locations for turning up to work on time, as they said enticement would help them meet summer and Christmas demand. So should people be offered bonuses not to go sick?
