PROTESTERS burn down buildings in Chinatown in the Solomon Islands as crowds march against another government-imposed lockdown.

According to reports, Australia has sent in military troops to combat rioting and help keep the peace. Anti-government protests turned violent on Wednesday (November 25), as protesters looted shops and set fire to buildings in Honiara.

The government soon responded by imposing a 36-hour lockdown, which failed to stop protesters targeting buildings in the capital's Chinatown.

Protesters have been calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, who has condemned the protests.
