Italy: 109 arrested during mass mafia crackdown in Sicily

A police operation against the Laudani mafia group culminated in 109 arrested suspects in Catania, on Tuesday night.

More than 500 police officers from the local police force and other special units, under the investigating magistrate of Catania, participated in the special operation. Police officers raided households suspected of being related to the Laudani group where firearms and money were discovered and thus confiscated.

The suspected members of the group are charged with extorting local businessmen, false registration of goods, drug trafficking, as well as the illegal possession of guns.
