Representatives of the Association of Tennis Professionals, the International Tennis Federation and the Tennis Integrity Unit announced an independent review of anti-corruption program for professional tennis. The announcement comes after growing suspicions about the prevalence of match fixing in tennis. Speculation about corruption has haunted the Australian Open, which began on Jan. 18, after explosive media reports suggested at least 16 male players were thought to have intentionally thrown matches multiple times during the past decade, but had never been sanctioned. The ATP said in a statement that, "The Independent Panel will review and report on the appropriateness and effectiveness of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program and make recommendations for change."
