When Christopher Dempsey overheard a co-worker talking about a family member needing a liver transplant, he got an idea. Thinking if it were him, he'd want someone to step up, Christopher went in for testing. He matched with Heather Krueger who doctor had given only a fifty percent chance of living another two months as a result of her stage four liver cancer. After spending time together, the two took a trip to Chicago where Christopher proposed and almost two years following their surgery, they were married.
