41 Months in Jail May Not Be a Long Time for Ukranian Hacker

On Thursday, Sergey Vovnenko, also known as "Flycracker" and "Darklife" among other aliases, was sentenced to 41 months in prison and ordered to pay $83,368 in restitution for stealing login and credit card data via his online hacking forums. The 31 year-old Ukranian plead guilty last year to aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and was sentenced in New Jersey. Vovnenko's lawyer is pleased with the sentence, and says that he could be out in a few months if the court allows the 32 months he already spent in prison to count toward his sentence. Vovnenko admitted to running a "botnet" of over 13,000 computers infected with malware to steal sensitive information by recording the keystrokes of unsuspecting users.
