Amid Nude Photo Scandal Marines Issue Stricter Social Media Policy

Following a nude-photo scandal, the Marine Corps has issues a more detailed social media policy that lays out the professional and legal ramifications for service members found culpable of online misconduct. The scandal involved former and current Marines reporting their photographs, and those of women in other branches of the military, being posted on social media pages without their consent. Investigators are still looking into threatening and obscene comments written on the posts by Marines. Released in recent days by Gen. Robert Neller, the Marine commandant, the Corps’ new guidelines are one result of the ongoing criminal investigation. The new policy was put into place to give leaders more leeway in prosecuting or punishing offenders and to make it clear that bad behavior will be punished under military code
