In 2005, nearly 15,000 Americans died from opioid overdoses. In 2015, the numbers had soared to 33,000. The epidemic has gotten so bad that on July 31, the White House's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis asked President Donald Trump to declare the opioid crisis a national health emergency. Ohio is one of the states hardest hit by the epidemic -- last year 86% of the state's overdose deaths involved an opioid.
