Tillerson Defends United States Foreign Service To Reassure American Diplomats

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson defended his handling of the United States' foreign service, in an effort to reassure American diplomats of their continued support under President Donald Trump. Last week reports surfaced of a White House plan to oust Tillerson from his post, in his first substantive public comments since those reports, Tillerson said, "While we don’t have any wins on the board yet, I can tell you we’re in a much better position to advance America’s interests around the world than we were 10 months ago." On Thursday, U.S. officials suggested a White House plan for CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace Tillerso, however Trump said on Friday he was not leaving and the secretary of state said on Saturday that the reports were untrue.
