In the US, the Senate Judiciary Committee has approved President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, despite allegations of sex abuse against him.

The panel, made up of 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats, voted entirely on party lines to send Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Senate floor. The Republicans also hold a slim majority in the Senate. Democrats have been demanding an FBI probe into the allegations made by Kavanaugh’s accusers and in a dramatic turn of events, so did a Republican member of the committee.
