According to Business Insider, for the past several months a red tide of dangerous algae blooms has been plaguing the Gulf of Mexico. Now the toxic algae has been spotted in waters near Miami. Not only can the algae kill many kinds of marine life, it can also lead to respiratory issues among people. The upcoming shellfish and fishing seasons are at risk as well. On Thursday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced $3 million in aid for several counties to assist with the red tide issue. One oceanographer told CNN that he expects strong currents will make the ride tide bloom in Miami go away within the next few weeks.
