The Federal Government does not intend to introduce new laws which would prevent the possibility of proliferation of German weapons or instructional information to Saudi Arabia through subsidiaries of German companies in South Africa or Italy. This was revealed by Ministry of Economic Affairs spokesperson Tanja Alemany during a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

"If a company is located on our territory, it is also subject to the German arms export control regulations. If a company is located on another state's territory, for example in Italy or South Africa, it is subject to the local conditions," said Alemany.

"If a product or any kind of know-how were transferred from the German company to a foreign subsidiary, the approval requirement, i.e. the German arms export control system would apply again," she stated.
